How Google Files Works
The Google Files app is free, lightweight (it takes up only 10MB) and offers three main features: clean up junk files and cache to improve your phone's memory and performance; browse the storage and find everything with just a few taps; send photos, share videos and transfer large files at high speed (up to 480 Mbps over encrypted direct Wi-Fi network).

After launching Files, you will be taken to a main screen with two tabs: Cleanup and Browse. In Cleanup, you can free up space with just a few taps. Remove old photos and memes from chat apps, remove duplicate files, remove unused apps, clear cache and much more. You'll be prompted to delete junk or temporary files, along with helpful suggestions of files to delete before you run out of space. You can also use Files to see how much free space is left on your phone (and SD card, if available).

If you select the “Browse” tab located at the bottom of the Files app, you will be taken to a screen where you can find files on your device by type such as Downloads, Received Files, Images, Videos, Audio and Documents. Just search for your files or browse them by categories and filters.
From there, the user can manage his files, whether he wants to view, delete, move, rename or share them. If you want to keep the file forever, select it from the File menu and back it up to Google Drive or any other cloud storage app.

The offline sharing feature used to have its own tab, but now it can be found in the top left corner of the menu (three horizontal lines). After granting the app the necessary permissions, you can share your photos, videos, documents or apps with others nearby at speeds of up to 480 Mbps. It also works without internet.

Simply pair your phone with anyone nearby who has the file. The app uses Bluetooth to establish a fast, encrypted direct Wi-Fi connection (secured with WPA2 encryption). Also, if your phone is running low on storage, Files will let you transfer large files or videos to your SD card (if you have one).

For these cases, Files offers automatic suggestions that speed up the cleaning process. In the "Free Up Memory" tab, you can view shortcuts to delete temp files, memes, duplicate photos and large files in a few steps. Whenever you clean up, the app will display the amount of free space in the side menu.

Found an interesting file and want to share it with others? You can do this without an Internet connection using peer-to-peer (P2P) sharing. Through the “Share” tab, up to 500 files can be transferred to another device approximately at a time. This operation is similar to AirDrop on Apple devices.

Files allows you to create secure folders on your device as a way to protect your files. When creating a folder, the user needs to specify a passcode, which can be numeric or standard. Everything in Secure Folder is hidden from mobile searches. To access them, you must enter the configured code.
